Our Specialized Therapy department programs are developed with a hands-on therapeutic approach that our patients enjoy and look forward to every day. Our therapists approach their work with dedication, a positive attitude, and professionalism that provide the best possible care for the patients at Wellstone Regional Hospital. We understand that recreation and leisure hobbies are what promote a healthy happy lifestyle and safe strategies for coping. These therapies include:
Recreational Therapy services include education and the promotion of recreation for coping. Programming is very creative, ranging from physical movement, wellness, cooking and art in leisure skill development. We offer unique opportunities in developing leisure coping skills such as rock wall climbing, cooking, Karaoke and special holiday and seasonal events. This variety enables us to meet the needs and treatment goals of our clients through therapeutic leisure participation.
Music Therapy offers a wide range of music genres to appeal to all generations. While in therapy, our patients are engaged in a variety of singing, instrument playing, and movement/dance interventions. With these multi-sensory activities, the patients build positive skills for behavioral, emotional and social outlets with a framework that puts our patients at home with music in coping.
We offer Horticultural Therapy opportunities during group therapy to enhance usable skills for coping at home. Horticulture and gardening provide a physical outlet for anxiety, stress and depression. It is also used to increase mental stimulation, memory recall and sober coping outdoors. The patients have access to our horticulture garden and a greenhouse for starting plants and vegetables from seedlings. The patients are encouraged to cultivate plants that they can care for at home. This therapy works by engaging clients in developing coping strategies with outdoor programming, mastering the environment and nature for coping year round.
